First Year Course Projects
In my first year, I was able to collaborate and work on various research projects including:
RP0 = Contamination of Cootes Paradise
RP1 = Mission to Mars
RP2 = Drugs, Doses and Distribution
RP3 = Sustainable Energy Challenge
RP4 = Cancer-21st Century Plague

RP0 - Contamination of Cootes Paradise
In a group, we coauthored a scientific report illustrating the complications of contaminants in neighbouring environments and effects on the health of the public.
- Recorded viable and important field data when sampling the environment
- Co-authored the report and integrated data and research into the report
RP1 Mission to Mars
Within a group of 5, each member took on a discipline-centered task and then was brought back to synthesize all the information into one PowerPoint presentation.

- Created a model of exoplanets orbiting around a star using MAPLE
- Differential equations and habitatble range formulas were used to determine eccentric order
- Extrapolated the meanings behind the model in a written report
- Orally communicated findings in a group using PowerPoint Presentation
RP2 Drug, Doses and Distribution
Alongside other members, we coauthored a report describing Rohypnol, caffeine and alcohol and other discipline specific inquiries.
- Studied the effects of pressures associated in the different parts of the body and how the three drugs affected them
- Looked into ACE inhibitors managing blood pressure
- Applied fluid dynamic concepts to biological systems where appropriate
- Coauthored a scientific report about the co-administration of Rohynpol and alcohol have compounded effects on GABA neurotransmitters
- Created a poster to describe and present effects of both drugs on neurotransmitters based on administration
RP3 Sustainable Energy Challenge
In a group, we looked at different energy source possibilities and created a dossier discussing the energy source, it’s applications and its viability in Canada. In order for the given energy technology to be explained, a lab protocol was also created for other groups to follow. We also created a pitch presentation for the possibility of geothermal energy being used in Lake Louise. To do so, we investigated the city consumption and the potential production of a geothermal plant in that location. In addition to legalities, we also took National Park conservation and environmental factors into considerations.
- Wrote a dossier about wind energy and peer-edited another group’s dossier and lab protocol
- Created a PowerPoint Presentation proposing a possible renewable energy source in Lake Louise
- Researched and consulted with officials from Lake Louise area to discuss energy source possibilities
RP4 Cancer - 21st Century Plague
Worked on a two-part research project; individual and group deliverables with separate content and due dates. Individual component was a review paper on Medullablastoma including the epidemiology, prevention, genetic susceptibility and detection methods.
- Investigated the physics behind an imaging technique
- Studied additional information regarding chemotherapeutic agents and their effectiveness for treatment
- Created cell survival curve based on mathematical calculations to be the most effective radiation dose schedule
- Coauthored physical lab proposal to study mechanisms of whether location & size of TDFTD effects rate of growth
